Introducing Rockpool - Lomond Wines

Posted by Mzontsundu Ntuli on

Rockpools are mesmerising – always full of colour, life and the unexpected.

What makes a Rockpool so unique and fascinating is the fact that it is ever changing – not one day will it look the same nor will you find the same sea life every time you go there.

The rockpools which inspires this range of wines are at my favourite local fishing spot at Romansbaai.

As a winemaker, " I truly believe that innovation is the building block to success, as well as the foundation on which a great winemaker is built."  Says Hannes Meyer.

Many of these innovative experiments and winemaking techniques result into the creation of unique gems in the cellar.  These Rockpool wines  are an expression of craftsmanship, innovation and dedication.  Like a Rockpool, these unique wines will be ever changing. Every year, something new will appear from my ocean of innovation, depending on cultivar and vintage variation.

I am immensely proud to introduce the following two wines in the Rockpool range:

2019 Rockpool Mourvèdre

I found my inspiration from Beaujolais in France after tasting this unprecedented style of wines with friends at a dinner evening. The Beaujolais area is famous for making extremely aromatic and fragrant red wines with elegantly integrated tannins.

I made this wine using Carbonic Maceration. This winemaking method results in wines with pronounced fresh red fruit on the nose and super soft tannins. With only a 12% alcohol, this is the perfect summer red wine to enjoy over long lunches and served slightly chilled.

2019 Rockpool Chenin Blanc

Rich layered Chenin Blanc with concentrated flavours of ripe tropical fruit is leaping from the glass with hints of white pear.

This full-bodied Chenin Blanc was fermented with specially selected Russian oak. The Russian oak really support the wine beautifully and add a unique sweet sensation to the wine.

On the pallet the wine shows good structure and balance with layers of fruit expressions. The Russian oak adds to long lingering aftertaste. This will also be a Chenin that will age very well.
