1x Journey's End Griffin Syrah 2016
A youthful but complex concentrated fruit wine. Layers of different red and black berries with hints of smoky spice, and dark-toned fruit. As a result of the excellent vintage and careful maturation, it is succulent, silky smooth with polished tannins. Although it's currently drinking well, there is enough underlying structure for further maturation.
1x Metzer Mantra Blend 2018
A beautiful delicacy on the nose with aromas of black cherries dried cranberry’s herbs as well as a hint of crushed rose petal. The Shiraz lends some meaty nuances and peppery spice to the blend while the Cinsault is responsible for the wonderfully fragrant aromatics. The palate is fleshy yet supple with a good density of fruit. The tannins are crunchy and persistent due to the whole bunch portion.
1x Metzer Family Shiraz 2018
VARIETAL:
100% Syrah. The wine is an assemblage of two unique parcels situated high up on the Helderberg West Peak; the highest of which is at 300 metres above sea level.
TASTING NOTES:
The wine shows pronounced floral notes backed up by white pepper, lilies and violets as well as a hint of olive. Notes of dried flowers are folded into the background. The palate is powerful yet graceful featuring ripe fruit complemented by savoury notes which keeps the wine balanced. The stems from the whole bunch portion add a chalky texture while at the same time maintaining freshness.
1x Metzer Family Montane Chenin Blanc 2018
VARIETAL:
100% Chenin blanc. A single-vineyard wine from a bush vine parcel planted in 1964. The vineyard is situated on the foothills of the Helderberg West Peak.
TASTING NOTES:
The wine offers an understated bouquet that unfolds delicately in the glass, with hints of apple, hay and ginger spice. The palate is well balanced and offers more of a textural experience than overt flavors. It has a vibrant mineral core with a touch of citrus on the finish leaving a slight tannic grip after the wine has departed
1x Journey’s End Destination Chardonnay 2018
The Destination is the pinnacle of white winemaking at Journey’s End and is only produced during exceptional vintages.
This wine is characterised by a sweeping spread of rich fruit and is given texture and resonance from generous oaking. An admirable harmony of flavours ranging from ripe peach and apricot to citrus peel and lemon preserve accompanied by toasted pine nuts and a long lasting creamy textured finish. The Destination’s long aging potential will reward patient cellaring for up to 10 years post bottling.
1x Journey’s End Chardonnay 2019
Clear and bright, straw with a hint of green. Expressive fruit, initially lemon and citrus, but under that, it’s more tropical and pineapple, all seamed through with crushed almond, savoury oak tones. This is a layered, complex wine, the result of cool-grown fruit carefully handled, plus barrel selection. The palate is silky, with a tangy finish from the fruit and acid combination, extending the flavours. The grapes were handpicked early morning from 2 different blocks. The one block was picked at 22.5 balling which gives the citrus/ minerality character to the wine. The other block was picked at 24.5 balling and contributes to the riper fruit flavours in the wine.
